What is the difference between marquetry and parquetry?

Saam Art Group Website Team

Parquetry is defined as “a geometric mosaic of wood components used for decorative effect”. Parquetry is usually used in furniture and flooring based on geometric patterns such as squares, triangles and rhombuses .parquetry is created using wooden strips or wooden blocks.
The marquetry adds pieces to create a decorative pattern, design, or image that sits on the surface of the original structure. These patterns can be random or designed or may be true images of things like people, animals, and more.
The main difference is that marquetry is adding a veneer to a smooth surface, while parquetry is creating a design or image that is made using a block or wood bar.

The materials used in Parquetry and Marquetry can also be slightly different. In parquetry, wood is mostly used during design. In Marquetry, varieties of varnishes used in various types of wood are used with other materials such as pearls, turquoise, rice, bone and dentin.
